You can easily turn your smartphone into an attendance terminal that allows you to record attendance using NFC Chips and cards (only phones with an NFC reader), numeric PINs, or QR codes.

If the phone has a free USB slot, a USB fingerprint reader can also be used for identification (note: built-in phone fingerprint readers cannot be used).
